MAK, One Heck Of a Dog

Ch Double Ring Dream Maker…

Mak was one heck of a dog. He suffered a serious injury when he was a puppy by falling down some basement steps. His recovery took several months.

One of the things I will always remember most is his first dog show. A well-known handler had called and asked if we would have an entry at some Missouri shows on the weekend prior to the New Mexico specialty. Between the dogs he carried, and two of ours, we were able to build a Major in males.

Mak had never been shown, still limped occasionally, but we hoped we would do okay on grass for at least the first day or two.

I will never forget watching him go around the ring the first time and I don’t think anyone else ringside that knew Mak’s story will forget it either.

When you have several dogs that move well it is often hard to determine which dog moves the best. It is often difficult for beginners to learn to recognize correct movement.

But when you see a dog that moves perfectly you just know it.

First time around the ring my jaw dropped. Mak was an average-sized dog in the ring with some really big dogs, but it didn’t matter. When Mak moved he became bigger than life.

I saw the judge lock eyes onto Mak and never take them away.

Mak won the Major in dogs and Best of Breed 2 out of 3 days! The 3rd day, one of our other dogs won the major.

It was quite a showing for his first time out!
