BRI’S RETIREMENT
 After
losing my first Kuvasz at age 14, it was two years
before I managed to check out Kuvasz breeders. I found
an ad about Double Ring Kuvasz and worked up the courage
to call the number listed. Kathy Ringering answered and
we had a long, wonderful visit. I became emotional when
I told her about my Kuvasz who had to be put down at age
14, and Kathy said, “Karen, you HAVE to have another
dog.” Shortly thereafter the conversation ended and I
had some hope that I would be able to get a pet puppy
from their next litter.
A letter came from Kathy a week or so later, offering me
the opportunity to take Champion Karousel's Heartbreak
Briana ("Bri") for her retirement years. It was so
amazing, because my Kuvasz was named Brie. The omen was
just too good to pass up.
Bri settled into our home and lifestyle with such grace
and acceptance. She and I bonded right from the
beginning.
Ch Karousel's Heartbreak Briana was such an elegant,
dignified lady. She and I went for walks, played in the
backyard, and she filled my life with such love. Her
protective instincts reached out to me and embraced my
heart. A gentle, quiet body, she would lie beside me
wherever I was, and she enjoyed her nightly brushings
and combings, teeth cleaning and treats.
Although she had every right to be spoiled, she never
really took advantage or made a pest of herself. She was
a love dog. Bri loved the backyard where she patrolled
the six foot fence and would then lie down in her
favorite place, which is where the picture was taken.
There is a spirit and depth to the Kuvasz breed that I
have not witnessed in other breeds. Bri was a "class
act" and a joy to have in my life for six years! I miss
her to this day, and for me she will always be an
example of the best of the Kuvasz breed.
Her picture hangs in my office, where I can see and
visit with her every day. Kokopeli (Koko), the rescue
“imp” I adopted on December 30, 2001, reminds me at
times of Bri, but she mostly makes me think of her
sister Tia, who Kathy had told me about at various
times.
Bri was an incredible dog and was such a wonderful
companion to me during some very difficult times. Bri
touched my life, gave me love, hope, and trust. Those
beautiful brown eyes spoke volumes. When I lost her, I
was truly bereft.
It was such a wonderful gift Kathy and Chuck gave me
when they entrusted Bri to my care.
Bri-baby, you are in my heart, always!
